Life in Rural Indian Societies - A Thought Ahead

Villages are the soul of the entire Nation

Simplicity is the key driver of the life in the rural areas of India. India the second most populous country, has about 70% of its population residing in the rural areas or the villages referring them as villagers. These villagers have common and simple way of living, dressing, food habits, shelters, manners, etc. This simplicity by nature makes the life and society of homogeneous enjoying more or less the same social status and also makes the people more caring in nature. The examples can be seen when any small issue between any two people can gather about 100’s of people in very short time. This also leads to the associative attitude of the community and their helping nature. Agriculture is the main occupation in the rural areas and most of the population is some or other way is related to this occupation. This also makes a social connection among the inhabitants of the rural areas.

The peaceful environment of the Indian villages is devoid of the hustle and bustle of the urban areas as the life in the village changes at a very slow pace. The inhabitants gets enough opportunity to enjoy beautiful gifts of the nature and breathes in pure air. People in rural areas are more physically active, healthier and of simpler habits. The entire village functions as a family where neighbours are being loved as our own.

At the same time there are many disadvantages of being in the rural community. They miss various basic amenities enjoyed by the urban dwellers such as education, health facility, work opportunities, places for entertainment like theatres or cinema halls etc. People dwelling in the rural areas are generally of narrow mind and superstitious by nature. Sometimes the transport facility is also worse making it difficult to get to the village. Thus it become of prime importance that we, the people of Indian subcontinent, try to uplift our village areas. Some of the points that can make this happen are as follows:

1.Upgrading Technology: The rural areas uses old age technologies which requires more labour then needed. We need a paradigm shift in the technological advancement so that a model can be set for other villages. The first step can be taken in the agricultural sector which can be similar to another Green Revolution and improving the agricultural practice in the rural areas.

2.Digital campaign for Rural India: The present Modi government has focused a lot on the digitization in various sectors. Rural India also have to pass through the digital wave where the important information like the weather forecast needs to be brought before people before time so that they can work effectively. Also there are other various advantages of being digital.

3. Improving sewage and Sanitation: With due respect to “Swach Bharat Abhiyan” a lot of the village population has started making toilets in their home. But the sanitation has to go a long way from here. We may need to think for the disposal of the bio-degradable and non-bio-degradable waste and also work for the recycling of the waste products.

4.Water management and rain water harvesting: Water is a very crucial element in any form of life. Proper water management need to be implemented at every section of the society whether a village or a town. New techniques should be implemented for rain water harvesting. The entire life in the village areas revolves around water as their major occupation agriculture is directly dependent on water. Thus rainwater harvesting and proper utilization of water plays a very important role in the lives of people.

5.Need for occupations other than agriculture: As the technology advances the need for the labour would become less, thus alternate occupations must evolve at the same time to employ the unemployed population within the village. This in turn makes a demand for the other occupations.

6.Proper Education and Health Facilities: It is of shame that even after 70 years of our independence we are not able to give very basic amenities such as Education and Health facilities. Proper arrangements for this have to be made.

7.Studying the case studies: There are various role models and villages where new experiments have worked efficiently, these experiments needs to be studied and applied over other villages suiting to their condition.

8.Providing permanent solution rather than a Jugaad: We need to work on the permanent solutions of the problems exhibited by the village rather than temporarily solving them by Jugaads.

Rural India needs more talent than the urban India, we the people of India has to swear in that we will try to bring the change in what so way possible. Let’s bring the Rural India on the Front.
